SJF Kung Fu School provides short-term and long-term authentic Chinese Kung Fu training to international students around the world.
What Is Taichi and How to Begin
Taichi is a traditional Chinese martial art that uses slow, flowing movements, deep breathing, and mental focus to develop body and mind. At SJF Kung Fu School, we offer authentic Taichi training in a traditional environment. Master Shen Jiangfei leads our school. He grew up in a martial arts family and is a descendant of Liuhe Quan and the 11th-generation inheritor of Chen-style Taichi. He has dedicated his life to preserving these authentic arts. Our international students come from Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, Austria, the United States, Libya, the Philippines, and more. They come to us for real Taichi in a genuine setting.
Taichi is easy to start but takes a lifetime to master. You do not need any special equipment or prior experience. Just wear comfortable clothes and come with an open mind. Master Shen will guide you from the very beginning. The practice is gentle enough for anyone but deep enough to keep you learning for years. Whether you are young or old, fit or out of shape, Taichi meets you where you are and helps you grow at your own pace.

Key Skills You Will Develop
You learn correct posture and alignment from day one. Good posture is the foundation of Taichi. You learn to stand with your spine straight and your weight evenly distributed. Your shoulders are relaxed, and your head is held naturally. This alignment helps your energy flow and prevents injury. Master Shen will check your posture frequently to ensure you are building good habits from the start. Proper alignment also improves your overall appearance and confidence, as you naturally stand taller and move with greater ease.
You learn to breathe deeply and naturally. Taichi breathing is slow and from your abdomen. You inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth. Your breath should be smooth and relaxed. Proper breathing calms your mind and gives you more energy. You will practice breathing exercises separately before combining them with movement. Over time, this deep breathing becomes second nature, helping you stay calm and focused even in stressful situations outside of practice.
You learn to move with control and grace. Taichi movements are slow and controlled. You learn to move each part of your body with precision. This develops coordination and body awareness. You also learn to move smoothly from one posture to the next. This gracefulness is a hallmark of Taichi practice. With consistent practice, your movements become more fluid and natural, and you carry this grace into your daily activities.
You learn to relax while moving. Relaxation is a skill that takes practice. You learn to move without tension in your muscles. This makes your movements more efficient and powerful. Relaxation also reduces your stress and improves your health. It is one of the most important lessons in Taichi. As you become more relaxed, you will notice that you feel less fatigued and more energetic throughout the day.
Health Benefits You Will Notice
Your energy levels increase noticeably after starting Taichi. The combination of movement, breathing, and relaxation revitalizes your body. Many students report feeling more awake and alert during the day. You also feel less tired at the end of the day, which allows you to enjoy your evenings more fully and be more present with family and friends.
Your posture improves dramatically. Taichi strengthens your core and back muscles. This supports your spine and improves your posture. You stand taller and look more confident. Better posture also reduces back and neck pain, which is one of the most noticeable benefits. Many students find that chronic pain they have had for years begins to fade within weeks of consistent practice.
Your balance gets much better. Taichi requires precise weight shifts and control. This trains your balance and stability. You will notice that you are steadier on your feet. This is especially beneficial for older adults, as better balance reduces your risk of falls. Even younger students find that improved balance enhances their performance in sports and other physical activities.
Your overall fitness level rises. Taichi is a complete workout that builds strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular fitness. You get all these benefits without straining your body. Many students find that Taichi improves their fitness more than they expected. The gentle, low-impact nature of the practice makes it accessible to people with joint issues or other physical limitations.

Understanding Your Internal Energy
You will become aware of your Qi, your internal energy. Taichi helps you feel this energy. You may notice warmth, tingling, or a sense of fullness in your body. This awareness grows with practice and is the first step in learning to use your energy. As you become more attuned to your Qi, you will start to notice how different movements and breathing patterns affect its flow.
Your Qi will flow more freely as you practice. Taichi movements open your energy channels, allowing your Qi to flow without blockages. Good energy flow supports your health and vitality. You will feel more balanced and centered in your daily life. Many students report feeling more resilient to stress and illness as their energy flow improves.
Relaxation is necessary for energy work. Tension blocks your Qi, while relaxation allows it to flow. Every class focuses on relaxation, helping you release tension from your body and mind. This relaxation is essential for developing your energy. The more you practice relaxation, the more you will notice the subtle sensations of energy moving through your body.
You can direct your Qi with intention. With practice, you learn to guide your Qi with your mind. You can send energy to different parts of your body. This skill has many benefits, from healing to martial arts. It takes time to develop but is very rewarding. As you become more skilled, you will be able to use your Qi to promote healing and maintain your health.
Mental and Emotional Growth
Your mind becomes quieter through regular Taichi practice. You focus on your movements and breath, which stops the constant mental chatter. Many students find that their minds feel more peaceful after practice. This mental quietness carries over into daily life, helping you stay calm and focused even in challenging situations.
Anxiety and worry decrease with practice. The calming effect of Taichi helps reduce anxiety. You learn to relax your body and mind, which reduces the physical symptoms of anxiety. You feel more calm and in control of your emotions. Many students find that they are better able to handle stressful situations without becoming overwhelmed.
You become more patient through Taichi. The practice cannot be rushed, and you must practice consistently to improve. This teaches you patience and acceptance. You learn to enjoy the process rather than just seeking results. This patience helps you in all areas of life, from work to relationships to personal goals.
You feel more positive overall. Many students experience a mood boost from Taichi. The combination of physical activity, relaxation, and mental focus releases feel-good chemicals in your brain. You feel happier and more optimistic, and this positive mood lasts beyond your practice session.
