SJF Kung Fu School provides short-term and long-term authentic Chinese Kung Fu training to international students around the world.
What Is Taichi
Taichi, also known as Tai Chi Chuan, is a traditional Chinese martial art that combines slow, flowing movements with deep breathing and mental focus. At SJF Kung Fu School, we teach Taichi as a complete system for developing body, mind, and spirit. Our school is led by Master Shen Jiangfei, who grew up in a martial arts family and has dedicated decades to preserving authentic teachings. Unlike commercial schools that simplify or water down the art, we maintain the full traditional forms and philosophies passed down through generations. Our international students from Germany, the UK, the United States, and many other countries have experienced the depth of our training firsthand.
Taichi is often called "meditation in motion." But at SJF, it is much more than that. It is a practical martial art, a health practice, and a philosophical system all in one. The slow, graceful movements you see are actually powerful techniques for generating internal energy, improving balance, and developing self-defense skills. When you learn Taichi with us, you are not just copying movements---you are understanding the meaning and application behind each posture. This deeper understanding transforms a simple exercise into a lifelong practice.

Taichi works by integrating movement, breath, and awareness. These three elements are practiced together in every movement. When you coordinate movement with breath and awareness, you activate your body's natural healing and relaxation response. This integration is the key to Taichi's effectiveness. The practice trains your body and mind to work as a unified system, creating benefits that extend far beyond the training ground.
The practice strengthens your nervous system. The slow, deliberate movements and deep breathing calm your nervous system. Over time, your nervous system becomes more balanced and resilient. This resilience helps you respond to stress more effectively. Instead of reacting impulsively to challenges, you develop the capacity to pause, assess, and respond with clarity.
Taichi improves circulation and energy flow. The movements stimulate blood flow and energy circulation throughout your body. Improved circulation supports healing and vitality. Many students notice improved energy and reduced fatigue after establishing a regular practice. The gentle twisting and stretching motions also massage internal organs, supporting their function.
Your body learns to move with less effort. Taichi teaches efficiency in movement. You learn to use your body's structure rather than muscular tension. This efficiency reduces strain and makes your movement more effective. Over time, you will find that you move with greater ease and less fatigue in daily activities.
You do not need to be fit to start Taichi. Taichi is accessible to everyone regardless of fitness level. The movements can be adapted to your current ability. As you practice, your fitness improves naturally. There is no pressure to keep up with others---your progress is measured by how you feel, not by comparison.
Comfortable clothing is all you need. There is no special equipment required for Taichi. Comfortable clothes and flat shoes are sufficient. This makes Taichi one of the most accessible forms of exercise available. You can practice anywhere, anytime, without the need for a gym or special gear.
Beginners start with simple movements. You will not be expected to learn complex forms immediately. Your teacher will guide you through basic movements and gradually add complexity as you progress. This step-by-step approach builds confidence and ensures you develop a solid foundation.
Regular practice is more important than long practice. Short daily practice is more effective than occasional long sessions. Even fifteen minutes a day can provide noticeable benefits. Consistency builds the habits that support lasting change in your health and well-being.
Your posture improves. Taichi training strengthens your core and aligns your spine. After some time, you may notice you stand taller and move with greater ease. Improved posture also reduces back and neck pain, making daily activities more comfortable.
Your breathing deepens. Taichi teaches you to breathe deeply and naturally. This deep breathing improves oxygen flow, calms your mind, and supports your health. Proper breathing is the foundation of relaxation and energy cultivation in Taichi.
Your mind becomes calmer. The focused attention of Taichi practice quiets mental chatter. You find yourself thinking more clearly and feeling less anxious. This mental clarity is one of the most valued benefits of regular practice.
Your body becomes stronger. Taichi builds functional strength through bodyweight exercises and sustained postures. This strength is practical and supports your daily activities. Unlike gym training that isolates muscles, Taichi develops strength that you can use in everyday life.
Stress reduction is one of the most immediate benefits. Students often notice they feel calmer and less stressed after just one practice session. This effect accumulates with regular practice, creating greater resilience to stress. Over time, you will find that you react less intensely to everyday pressures.
Improved balance reduces fall risk. Taichi is one of the most effective ways to improve balance. This is especially important as you age. Better balance reduces the risk of falls and the injuries they can cause, helping you maintain independence and confidence.
Better sleep quality is common. Many students report sleeping more deeply and waking feeling more rested. The relaxation of Taichi practice supports healthy sleep patterns. Good sleep is essential for physical recovery, mental clarity, and emotional balance.
Reduced chronic pain is a benefit for many. Taichi has been shown to help with conditions like arthritis and back pain. The gentle movements improve circulation and reduce inflammation. Many students experience significant relief from chronic discomfort.

Greater emotional balance develops. Taichi practice helps you respond to challenges with greater calm and clarity. You learn to breathe through difficult emotions rather than reacting automatically. This emotional stability improves your relationships and overall quality of life.
Improved concentration is noticeable. Taichi requires focused attention, which trains your ability to concentrate. This improved focus benefits work, study, and all other mental activities. The practice develops mental discipline that you can apply in any situation.
Stress resilience builds over time. Regular practice makes you more resilient to stress. You become better at managing challenging situations because your nervous system is more balanced. This resilience is one of the most valuable benefits of long-term practice.
Inner peace grows with practice. Many students describe a growing sense of inner peace and contentment. This peace becomes a reliable resource they can draw on in daily life. It is not about escaping problems but about facing them with greater calm and clarity.
Authentic instruction from a master teacher. At SJF, you learn from Master Shen, who has decades of experience and maintains traditional standards. His teaching is patient, clear, and effective. He adapts his instruction to each student's level and needs.

Each session focuses on different aspects of your practice---form, breath, application, and energy awareness.
