What Is Taichi and Why It Matters Today

Taichi is a traditional Chinese martial art known for its slow, graceful movements and deep breathing. At SJF Kung Fu School, we teach Taichi as a complete practice for body, mind, and spirit. Our school is led by Master Shen Jiangfei, a descendant of Liuhe Quan and the 11th-generation inheritor of Chen-style Taichi. He grew up in a martial arts family and has dedicated his life to preserving authentic teachings. Unlike many schools that simplify the art, we maintain the full traditional forms passed down through generations. Students from Germany, the UK, the US, and many other countries have trained with us and experienced the real depth of Taichi.

Many people call Taichi "meditation in motion." But at our school, it is much more than that. Taichi is a practical martial art, a health practice, and a way of life all in one. The slow movements you see are actually powerful techniques for building internal energy, improving balance, and developing self-defense skills. What You Will Learn During Your Training

Your journey begins with the fundamentals. You will start with basic stances that build leg strength and stability. These stances are the foundation of all Taichi movements. Master Shen will guide you through each posture, correcting your alignment and helping you relax. You will learn how to stand, step, and shift your weight properly. These basic skills are essential for safe and effective practice.

Footwork and arm movements are taught in detail. You will learn precise stepping patterns and coordinated arm movements. Your arms will move from your center, not from your shoulders. This makes your movements more powerful and less tiring. You will also learn how to breathe deeply and naturally with each movement. Proper breathing is key to generating internal energy and staying relaxed throughout your practice.

You will learn complete Taichi forms. As you progress, you will learn longer sequences of movements. These forms combine stances, footwork, arm movements, and breathing into a flowing practice. Each form has a martial purpose. Master Shen will explain the combat application behind each movement. This understanding deepens your practice and makes it more meaningful.

Transform Your Energy Through Daily Practice

Taichi teaches you to feel and direct your internal energy. The Chinese term for this energy is "Qi." Through regular practice, you become aware of the energy flowing through your body.
